Performance : New chipset with faster CPU and GPU provides better performance, faster loading time and modern graphics.

Sound : The upgraded sound system provides more spatial and realistic sound for a better gaming experience.

Memory : Contains 256 GB of internal memory and supports expansion using microSD Express memory cards.

Compatibility : Supports playing most physical and digital titles from the original Nintendo Switch system.

GameChat : The GameChat feature allows group chat and gaming with friends, as if you were in the same room. It is activated by pressing the C button on the right Joy-Con 2 controller. The built-in microphone supports voice chat with up to 12 players. Up to four users can share the screen, and if a USB-C camera is connected (such as the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, sold separately), video calls are also possible. Others can join via voice chat. The feature is free until March 2026, after which it will require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

New dock and 4K support : The new dock enables display of up to 4K resolution and up to 120 fps in supported games, when connected to a suitable TV.

Game sharing : The GameShare feature allows you to share games with others – locally or online – even if they don't own the game, with the support of GameChat.

Virtual Cards : These cards allow digital games to be managed, shared between two consoles, and loaned to family members within the same Nintendo Account.

Nintendo Switch Online : The Nintendo Switch Online service will also be available on the Switch 2 system. Since launch, members with the Expansion Pack get access to GameCube games with enhanced graphics.

Accessibility and Security : The console includes text size options, a screen reader, and a text-to-speech feature in GameChat mode. Parental control allows monitoring and limiting the use of the device through a mobile application.

Switch Sports Resort : The game brings a modern and accessible sports experience that uses Joy-Con controllers for precise motion recognition, allowing players to feel like they are actually participating in their favorite sports. Within the picturesque Spocco Square complex , the game offers a range of disciplines such as tennis, bowling, football, volleyball, badminton, golf and Chambara , each with unique rules and playing style. In addition to local multiplayer for family and friends, online competition against players from around the world is also available , with the ability to unlock new cosmetic items and customize your own avatar. Thanks to its simple controls, fun multiplayer focus and combination of recreational and competitive content, Nintendo Switch Sports is a great choice for players of all ages who want to enjoy dynamic sports challenges and fun together.

Design and hardware changes

The Nintendo Switch 2 retains the signature hybrid design of the original console, but with significant improvements. The console is larger, with an 8-inch screen (compared to 7 inches on the Switch OLED model), while the Joy-Con controllers bring a refreshed look and functionality. The new Joy-Con controllers now feature a black base with colorful accents, improved SL and SR buttons for more comfortable gameplay, and an additional button below the right analog stick.

Magnetic controller attachment system

One of the most interesting changes is the switch to a magnetic controller attachment system, which allows for easier handling and increases modularity. The controllers also feature optical sensors, hinting at the potential use of the Joy-Con as a mouse, opening the door to entirely new gameplay and accessories.

Compatibility with old games and new titles

The new console is compatible with physical and digital games of the previous generation. Nintendo has confirmed that almost all Switch titles will work on the new console, with a few exceptions. In addition, Switch 2 brings new exclusive games that will delight gamers.

Comparison with the original Nintendo Switch

The console brings significant improvements over the original Switch. The screen is larger and supports HDR, VRR, and up to 120 fps in compatible games. The new dock enables gaming in 4K resolution. Joy-Con controllers now have a magnetic attachment system and optical sensors for mouse control.

Nintendo Switch 2 Game Formats

Game key-card : Nintendo Switch 2 supports both regular card games and game key cards. Game key cards are different from regular card games because they do not contain the entire game on the card. Instead, the game key card is your "key" to download the entire game to your console online.

How the game key-card works:

Step 1 : Insert the game key card into the console.

Step 2 : Download the game (the game itself is not included on the game key card, so you will need to download it before you can play). When you insert the game key card, further instructions will be displayed in the HOME menu. Follow the instructions to download the game. Please note: in order to download the game, you must have enough free space in the console's system memory or microSD express card. The amount of free space required is indicated on the package of the game key card.

Step 3 : Start the game. Once the game is downloaded, you're ready to play! Internet connection is only required when you start the game for the first time. After that, the game can be started even without an internet connection. However, like regular physical software, the game key card must be in the console to play the game.
